Staff Engineer, TDT PD CMP

Role Summary

Senior process development engineer on the Technology Development Taiwan (TDT) CMP team focused on Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) for advanced DRAM technology. Responsible for developing and qualifying CMP processes, consumables, and equipment to meet yield, quality, and cycle-time targets while collaborating across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role expects significant industry experience; B.S. with a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience is acceptable, or an M.S./Ph.D. in a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include process development, characterization, and supplier/equipment management.

• Develop and refine CMP processes to support advanced DRAM technology acceleration.
• Plan, execute, and analyze well-designed experiments; present results in clear reports.
• Perform process characterization and develop new consumables and hardware evaluations.
• Drive continuous improvements to meet yield, quality, and cycle-time requirements.
• Manage CMP consumables and equipment suppliers and coordinate cross-functional work.
• Contribute to R&D and IP generation through applied research and innovation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and professional capabilities.

• Proficiency in both Chinese and English (written and verbal).
• Expertise in CMP process development and hands-on experience with CMP polishing equipment, including operation, optical metrology, profilometry, slurries, and polishing pads.
• In-depth understanding of polishing mechanisms for dielectric and metal CMP and strong knowledge of material properties and characterization techniques.
• Working knowledge of statistics, mathematics, and practical familiarity with machine learning algorithms for data analysis.
• Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated interest in R&D and the ability to translate lab work into production-worthy technologies.
• Basic knowledge of AI and Generative AI tools; experience using Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar and applying AI to optimize workflows.
• Preferred: experience in the memory or logic semiconductor industry.

Education Requirements

Preferred: M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field. Acceptable: B.S. with a minimum of 5 years' relevant industry experience. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
