Job Title
Staff Engineer - Subsystem CoE Emulation
Role Summary
Lead development and execution of emulation infrastructure and models for complex SoC subsystems to enable pre-silicon validation, firmware readiness, and system integration. Work within the Emulation Center of Excellence supporting the Custom Compute and Storage Business Unit and collaborate closely with RTL, verification, and firmware teams.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires multi-year professional experience (see Education Requirements for specific years-of-experience guidance).
Responsibilities
The role focuses on building and operating emulation solutions, driving bring-up, and enabling pre-silicon validation and software development.
- Develop, integrate, and debug complex SoC emulation models across platforms (e.g., Veloce, ZeBu, Palladium).
- Drive emulation bring-up activities including clock/reset sequencing, firmware boot, and system validation.
- Create and execute emulation test plans for verification, performance analysis, and software readiness.
- Collaborate with RTL design, verification, and firmware teams to define requirements and ensure accurate hardware model integration.
- Debug cross-domain issues across RTL, firmware, emulation platforms, and toolchains.
- Optimize emulation performance through model partitioning, timing improvements, and runtime efficiency.
- Automate emulation flows and tooling using scripting languages and improve productivity tools.
- Work with EDA vendors to evaluate capabilities, resolve technical issues, and drive tool improvements.
- Define and execute emulation strategy for boot, security, high-speed interfaces, memory subsystems, and peripherals.
- Enable firmware and software teams with stable, scalable emulation environments for protocol bring-up and validation (PCIe/CXL, DDR/HBM, Ethernet, USB, SPI/I2C/UART).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience.
- Strong practical experience in SoC emulation, validation, and debug of subsystems.
- Expertise in one or more domains: boot/system initialization, security validation, high-speed protocols (PCIe, CXL, Ethernet), memory interfaces (DDR, HBM), or peripheral interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, USB 3.0).
- Hands-on experience with major emulation platforms such as Palladium, ZeBu, or Veloce.
- Strong hardware/software boundary debugging skills.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell).
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical efforts and drive execution to completion.
- Experience working with EDA vendors and evaluating toolchains.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years of relevant professional experience; or Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience. (No separate mention of certifications; no explicit equivalent-experience clause provided.)
