Job Title

Staff Engineer, SSD Validation

Role Summary

The Staff Engineer for SSD Validation leads validation, system integration, and joint qualification for Enterprise and Datacenter NVMe SSD products. This role coordinates across firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and customer teams to ensure products are production-ready on internal and customer platforms.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting requests 5+ years of SSD, storage, or semiconductor validation experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for system-level validation, qualification, and customer joint qualification activities across SSDs, firmware, drivers, OS, networking, and platform configurations.

  • Lead end-to-end system validation and qualification, including test planning and execution across hardware, firmware, OS, drivers, and networks.
  • Direct validation test plans from development through completion; perform failure analysis and reporting aligned with customer JQ requirements.
  • Perform hands-on system bring-up, debug, OS installation, driver validation, and storage-stack verification.
  • Support customer and partner issue reproduction and convert field/JQ findings into internal test cases to improve coverage.
  • Develop and improve automated test frameworks and Python-based tools to increase test coverage and engineering efficiency.
  • Apply AI-assisted and data-driven methods to accelerate failure analysis, enhance validation efficiency, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Mentor engineers and promote shift-left validation practices to improve product quality and testability.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience required for the role.

  • 5+ years of experience in SSD, storage, or semiconductor validation with deep knowledge of NVMe and PCIe protocols.
  • Hands-on expertise with Linux environments: system setup, OS bring-up, driver validation, drive triage, and root-cause analysis.
  • Proven experience in Enterprise/Datacenter SSD firmware validation and system-level joint qualification.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation and data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience coordinating across cross-functional and customer teams.
  • Experience leading validation strategy and mentoring other engineers.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience leading or assisting customer joint qualification efforts with OEMs, hyperscalers, or strategic partners.
  • Familiarity with networked storage environments, platform interoperability, and multi-system qualification flows.
  • Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers (LeCroy, JDSU) and third-party SSD test platforms (UNH-IOL, PCI-SIG, SanBlaze).
  • Strong understanding of PCIe topology, BIOS/firmware behavior, Linux storage stacks, and drivers.
  • Knowledge of NAND flash, storage architecture, and FTL development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (as stated in the posting).
