Staff Engineer, SSD System Design

Role Summary

Design and validate Solid State Drives (SSDs) from architecture through high-volume manufacturing. The role focuses on product characterization, performance and power analysis, reliability investigation, failure analysis, and cross-functional support for internal and external customers.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Requires approximately 8–12 years of relevant SSD or storage engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system-level debug, failure analysis, test planning, and cross-team collaboration to bring SSD products into production.

  • Drive and resolve system-level issues on SSD products.
  • Perform product failure analysis and determine root cause of issues.
  • Support new product development and manufacturing ramp.
  • Create and maintain Master Test Plans and verify alignment between architecture and test plans.
  • Interface with product development teams, suppliers, and customers to close issues.
  • Provide technical support and training on failure analysis and debug strategies.
  • Support customer and internal audits and follow safety and procedural policies.
  • Drive common processes and debugging strategies across System Engineering.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools experience, and demonstrated system-level problem solving.

  • In-depth knowledge of one or more interface standards: SATA, SAS, or PCIe.
  • Understanding of NAND memory operation and NAND/DRAM reliability issues.
  • Hands-on experience with logic analyzers, bus analyzers, and digital oscilloscopes.
  • Programming experience in C and Python.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments.
  • Proven ability to drive engineering efforts across new product development and system-level debug.
  • Strong root-cause analysis and corrective-action implementation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication, documentation, leadership, and collaboration skills.
