Staff Engineer, Silicon & Data Automation Systems (Design, DFT, Diagnostics, Yield)

Role Summary

Senior individual contributor responsible for developing production-grade automation, data pipelines, database-backed applications, and engineering tools to improve silicon and system yield engineering workflows. The role sits in the Bangalore Design Center and works closely with U.S.-based yield automation leadership.

Experience Level

Senior individual contributor. This role expects established engineering judgment, ownership of production systems, and regular overlap with U.S. Central Time stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Deliver reliable, maintainable automation and data systems supporting design, DFT, validation, diagnostics, and yield workflows.

  • Design, implement, test, and operate Linux-based automation services, scripts, and backend systems for engineering workflows.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines to collect, transform, validate, and load engineering and manufacturing data.
  • Develop production-grade solutions with logging, monitoring, error handling, alerting, and operational supportability.
  • Integrate and expose data via database-backed applications, APIs, dashboards, and command-line tools.
  • Use AI-assisted development practices responsibly to accelerate coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation while retaining human review and ownership.
  • Debug and resolve issues across Linux servers, filesystems, scheduled jobs, data feeds, and databases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate domain requirements into automated solutions and operational procedures.
  • Create clear documentation, runbooks, and usage guidance for long-term maintainability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one impact; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proven hands-on experience with Linux-based automation, shell scripting, and server-side troubleshooting.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or a comparable language for automation and backend systems.
  • Practical experience with SQL, relational databases, schema design, and query optimization.
  • Experience building automation that processes, validates, and integrates large or complex datasets.
  • Track record of delivering production-quality software or automation with tests, logging, error handling, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version control in collaborative environments.
  • Practical experience using LLM-based coding agents or AI-assisted development tools and the ability to critically review AI-generated outputs for correctness and security.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across software, data, database, and Linux environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and ability to collaborate across time zones with US stakeholders.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field is listed as acceptable; equivalent practical experience is also acceptable. (Minimum qualifications in the source map degree level to experience: Bachelor's +4 years, Master's +3 years, PhD +2 years.)
