Job Title

Staff Engineer, Silicon & Data Automation Systems (Design, DFT, Diagnostics, Yield)

Role Summary

Develop production-grade automation, data pipelines, and database-backed tools to improve silicon and system yield engineering workflows across design, DFT, diagnostics, and yield. Join the Bangalore Design Center automation team as a senior individual contributor working closely with US-based stakeholders and providing regular overlap with US Central Time morning hours.

Experience Level

Senior individual contributor. Prior engineering or automation experience is expected; see Education Requirements for specific degree/experience mappings.

Responsibilities

Deliver and operate automation and data systems that increase engineering velocity, quality, and scale.

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain Linux-based automation services, scripts, scheduled jobs, and backend systems for yield and diagnostics workflows.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines to collect, validate, transform, and load engineering and manufacturing data from multiple sources.
  • Develop database-backed applications, perform schema design, optimize queries, and ensure data quality and traceability.
  • Produce production-ready solutions with logging, monitoring, error handling, alerting, documentation, and operational supportability.
  • Integrate AI-assisted engineering tools (LLM-based agents, internal assistants) responsibly to accelerate development while maintaining human review and safety standards.
  • Create backend tools, APIs, dashboards, and CLI utilities that integrate into existing engineering workflows without disrupting production.
  • Debug and resolve issues across Linux servers, databases, file systems, data feeds, and dependent engineering systems.
  • Collaborate across design, DFT, validation, diagnostics, and data teams to translate requirements into practical automated solutions and participate in code reviews and production readiness reviews.

Requirements

Core technical skills and practical experience required. Preferred items listed separately.

Must-have:

  • Hands-on Linux automation and operational troubleshooting (shell scripting, cron/scheduled jobs, file systems, permissions).
  • Strong programming skills in Python or a comparable language for automation and backend development.
  • Proven experience with SQL and relational databases, data modeling, and database-backed automation workflows.
  • Experience building data pipelines that process, validate, and integrate large technical datasets.
  • Track record of delivering production-quality software or automation (testing, logging, error handling, maintainability).
  • Experience using Git or similar version control in collaborative environments.
  • Practical experience using LLM-based coding agents or AI-assisted development tools and the ability to critically review AI-generated outputs.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across software, data, database, and Linux environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and ability to work with US-based stakeholders with required time overlap.

Nice-to-have / Preferred:

  • Experience with semiconductor domains (design, DFT, validation, diagnostics, yield) and engineering datasets (STDF, KLARF, wafer maps, test data).
  • Experience with Oracle/PLSQL, ODBC, database loaders, or production database integration.
  • Familiarity with Django or similar backend frameworks, REST APIs, dashboards, and observability tools (e.g., Splunk).
  • Experience with batch/distributed compute, LSF/grid environments, and multi-server automation.
  • Experience building or integrating AI agents, MCP servers, or RAG workflows and applying responsible human-in-the-loop practices.

Education Requirements

Listing in the source includes: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field. Minimum experience mappings provided: Bachelor's + 4+ years of hardware engineering or related experience, Master's + 3+ years, or PhD + 2+ years. Equivalent practical experience is accepted.
