Staff Engineer, Silicon & Data Automation Systems
QualcommJob Title
Staff Engineer, Silicon & Data Automation Systems
Role Summary
Senior individual contributor responsible for designing and delivering production-grade automation, data pipelines, database-backed applications, and engineering tools to support silicon and system yield workflows (design, DFT, validation, diagnostics, and yield).
Works on a Bangalore-based automation team with regular overlap with U.S. Central Time stakeholders; focuses on scalable, observable, and secure production systems and pragmatic AI-assisted engineering practices.
Experience Level
Senior - senior individual contributor role. Typical expectation: experienced engineer with several years of hands-on automation, data, and production software experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver and maintain automation and data systems that accelerate semiconductor engineering workflows.
- Design, build, test, and operate Linux-based automation services, scripts, scheduled jobs, and backend systems for engineering workflows.
- Develop data pipelines to collect, transform, validate, and load engineering and manufacturing data; ensure data quality and traceability.
- Implement production-grade features: logging, monitoring, error handling, alerting, documentation, and operational supportability.
- Integrate automation with databases and engineering systems; optimize schemas and queries for performance.
- Use and integrate AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity while retaining human review and ownership.
- Build APIs, dashboards, web backends, CLIs, and other tools to make complex data accessible and actionable.
- Collaborate across design, DFT, validation, diagnostics, and yield teams; participate in code reviews and production readiness activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux-based development and operational debugging (shell scripting, cron/scheduled jobs, file systems, permissions).
- Proficient programming skills in Python or comparable languages used for automation and backend systems.
- Strong SQL and relational database experience: data modeling, schema design, query development, and performance tuning.
- Experience building production-quality automation and software with testing, logging, error handling, and maintainability.
- Practical experience building data pipelines that process, validate, transform, and integrate large technical datasets.
- Experience using Git or similar version control in collaborative environments.
- Practical familiarity with LLM-based coding agents or AI-assisted development tools and ability to critically review AI outputs.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across software, data, database, and Linux environments; good English communication skills.
- Able to collaborate across time zones with required overlap with U.S. Central Time.
Nice-to-have:
- Semiconductor domain experience (design, DFT, validation, diagnostics, yield) and familiarity with formats such as STDF, KLARF, wafer maps.
- Experience with Oracle/PL/SQL, database loaders, Django or similar frameworks, REST APIs, observability tools (Splunk), batch/distributed compute systems (LSF/grid).
- Experience building or integrating AI-enabled engineering tools, internal agents, MCP servers, or RAG workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Software/Data Engineering, or a related technical field is listed in the source as common qualifications; equivalent practical experience is explicitly accepted.
