Staff Engineer – Process Development, Photolithography (NAND)

Role Summary

The Staff Engineer leads module-level photolithography process development for advanced NAND technology nodes, owning process robustness, manufacturability, and transfer readiness. The role partners with global R&D and manufacturing teams to translate device and integration requirements into reliable, scalable process solutions.

Work focuses on lithography process optimization, equipment and materials evaluation, process control strategy, and delivering development milestones through technology transfer.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Requires substantial prior experience in semiconductor photolithography process development and leadership in process execution.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing, optimizing, and transferring photolithography processes, implementing process control methods, and collaborating across functions and suppliers.

  • Lead development, optimization, and troubleshooting of photolithography processes to meet yield, quality, and performance targets.
  • Translate device and integration requirements into robust process flows, specifications, and control strategies.
  • Perform material evaluations, OPC/layout development, process-window analysis, and overlay optimization.
  • Design and implement advanced process control methodologies using SPC, DOE, and lithography simulation tools.
  • Own delivery of defined photolithography milestones from development through transfer readiness.
  • Partner with global R&D and manufacturing teams and with equipment and materials suppliers to evaluate new capabilities and ensure effective technology transfer.
  • Contribute to invention disclosures and technical documentation.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools and continuous-improvement practices to improve efficiency, quality, and effectiveness.

Requirements

Must-have technical and interpersonal skills. Preferred items listed where applicable.

  • Proven track record contributing to and accomplishing photolithography process and equipment roadmaps.
  • Deep knowledge of optics, immersion lithography, polarized illumination, and low k1 imaging.
  • Proficiency with lithography simulation tools, material characterization methods, DOE, SPC, and basic statistical data analysis.
  • Technical ownership and accountability, structured problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Preferred: experience with advanced DUV and exposure to EUV; supplier interaction and early technology adoption experience.

Education Requirements

PhD with ≥3 years, or Master’s with ≥5 years, or Bachelor’s with ≥7 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; demonstrated experience in semiconductor photolithography process development.
