Job Title

Staff Engineer – Process Development, Dry Etch, NAND

Role Summary

The Staff Engineer leads dry etch unit process development and module execution for advanced NAND products, delivering robust, manufacturable process solutions that meet program, yield, and manufacturability targets.

The role partners across integration, adjacent process areas, and suppliers to resolve structural and cross-module challenges and to enable process transfer to manufacturing.

Experience Level

Senior; experience guidance provided by degree level (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on developing, optimizing, and transferring dry etch processes and driving yield and manufacturability improvements.

  • Develop and optimize dry etch processes to meet physical, structural, and electrical requirements for advanced NAND products.
  • Design and execute experiments (DOE/SPC) and analyze data to improve process capability, reduce variability, and increase margin.
  • Lead root-cause and failure-mode analyses for process and hardware limitations; coordinate vendor and supplier engagement for solutions.
  • Collaborate with Process Integration and adjacent process areas (Wet Etch, CVD/Diffusion, Metals, Lithography, CMP) to integrate solutions and resolve cross-module interactions.
  • Support pilot-line sustainment and process transfer to manufacturing sites.
  • Contribute to fundamental research and innovation to support next-generation NAND scaling.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools and identify AI-enabled process or analysis improvements where appropriate.

Requirements

Core technical and interpersonal requirements for successful performance in the role.

  • Technical (must-have): Dry etch fundamentals, including plasma physics/chemistry and reactor behavior; DOE/SPC and statistical analysis; experimental design and data analysis for process development.
  • Soft skills (must-have): Strong analytical problem-solving, ability to manage multiple technical priorities and deliver on commitments, and effective cross-functional communication and stakeholder management.
  • Preferred: Python or data-science basics and experience with GenAI-enabled analysis or automation.

Education Requirements

PhD with 6gt;= 3 years, Masters with 6gt;= 5 years, or Bachelors with 6gt;= 7 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
