Job Title
Staff Engineer – Process Development, Cell Film, NAND
Role Summary
Develop, optimize, and characterize cell-film thin film processes (ALD/CVD) to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets and support scaling across nodes and platforms.
Operate as a cross-functional contributor owning portions of process modules, tracking margins and integration risks, and converting experimental outcomes into actionable process improvements.
Experience Level
Senior — requires multi-year, independent technical leadership and mentoring experience.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on process R&D, module ownership, integration, tool engagement, and technical communication.
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop and optimize ALD/CVD thin film processes and translate results into process improvements.
- Support scaling of cell-film processes across technology nodes and platforms.
- Own defined portions of a process module/sub-module; track process margins, sensitivities, and integration risks.
- Drive resolution of process- and tool-related issues within assigned scope and support failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
- Collaborate with integration and device teams to correlate material, structural, and electrical data to guide optimization.
- Support tool qualifications, upgrades, and platform transfers; partner with suppliers to improve tool stability and capability.
- Communicate results via technical reports and reviews; mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve efficiency while complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements (education summarized separately).
-
Must-have technical: Strong fundamentals in ALD/CVD and materials characterization; working knowledge of plasma processes, vacuum systems, and chemical reactions; ability to link process conditions to material properties and device behavior.
-
Must-have technical: Familiarity with electrical test methods, fab metrology tools, and understanding of NAND cell structures and basic device physics.
-
Must-have professional: Demonstrated thin-film R&D experience for microelectronics with a record of leading complex technology development and structured problem-solving ability.
-
Must-have professional: Clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring experience.
-
Nice-to-have: Hands-on tool/hardware experience, tool qualification and platform transfer experience, and supplier interaction experience.
Education Requirements
PhD with ≥3 years, or Master’s with ≥5 years, or Bachelor’s with ≥7 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience acceptable.
