Micron TechnologyJob Title
Staff Engineer, Process Development - Cell Film
Role Summary
Lead development and optimization of thin film (ALD/CVD) processes for cell films in advanced memory fabs. Work on process scaling, integration, characterization, and yield improvement within a cross-functional device and integration organization.
Own defined process module scope, drive experiments and data analysis, support tool/hardware engagement, and mentor junior engineers to deliver manufacturable process solutions.
Experience Level
Senior level. Requires demonstrated independent technical leadership; posting references 3+ years of thin film R&D experience (PhD or equivalent experience is noted in education).
Responsibilities
Execute and document process development, integration, and problem resolution for cell film technologies.
- Develop, optimize, and characterize thin film processes (ALD/CVD) to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
- Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and translate results into process improvements and scaling plans.
- Own portions of a process module or sub-module; track margins, sensitivities, and integration risks.
- Collaborate with integration and device teams to ensure process compatibility and electrical performance.
- Correlate material, structural, and electrical data to guide optimization and support failure analysis.
- Engage with tool and equipment engineers and suppliers for tool qualifications, upgrades, and transfers.
- Communicate results through technical reports and reviews; participate in cross-functional project teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Requirements
Key technical skills and proven experience required for effective contribution in this role.
- 3+ years experience in thin film R&D for microelectronic devices, with a track record of leading complex technology development.
- Proven ability to influence technology direction, mentor teams, and deliver solutions for advanced memory nodes.
- Strong fundamentals in thin film deposition (ALD/CVD) and materials characterization techniques.
- Working knowledge of plasma processes, vacuum systems, and chemical reaction behavior.
- Ability to link process conditions to material properties and device electrical behavior.
- Familiarity with electrical test methods and fab metrology tools.
- Understanding of NAND cell structures and basic device physics.
Education Requirements
PhD or equivalent practical experience in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
