Job Title

Staff Engineer, Power Management IC Design

Role Summary

Design and verify mixed-signal power management ICs, focusing on controller ICs and high-current power stage circuitry. The role covers architecture definition, full design flow participation, layout guidance, and silicon characterization for PMIC subsystems.

Position sits within an IC design team and works closely with validation, test, product engineering, and layout teams to deliver production-quality silicon.

Experience Level

Senior level. Qualifications specify multi-year experience requirements tied to degree level (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include ownership of design blocks, verification strategy, and silicon bring-up.

  • Define and design complex IC blocks and subsystems for power management ICs.
  • Own design and verification strategy for assigned blocks, including controller circuitry and power stage interfaces.
  • Guide layout engineers and perform physical verification reviews to ensure high-quality layouts.
  • Perform functionality and performance validation through simulation and silicon characterization.
  • Analyze simulation and silicon results and drive corrective actions.
  • Document design intent, architectural decisions, and silicon findings for PMIC subsystems.
  • Collaborate with validation, test, and product engineering teams for silicon bring-up and characterization.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineering staff.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and competencies.

  • Expertise in power electronics, control theory, and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Proficiency with design and simulation tools such as Cadence ADE, Spectre, MATLAB, and Verilog.
  • Experience with silicon characterization, interpreting measurement data, and implementing fixes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on complex design issues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication for technical reporting and cross-team collaboration.
  • Track record of mentoring and providing technical leadership to other engineers.

Education Requirements

One of the following is required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years of relevant experience, Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience. (Degree field specified: Electrical Engineering.)
