Job Title

Staff Engineer, Physical Design Flow Expert — PD Methodology & Automation

Role Summary

The Staff Engineer will improve and scale physical-design methodologies, automation infrastructure, and execution flows for complex SoC programs. The role partners with CAD, Physical Design (PD), STA, and methodology teams to increase flow robustness, runtime efficiency, and QoR across multiple designs and technology nodes.

Experience Level

Senior level — typically 8+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver practical flow and automation improvements across physical implementation and timing signoff stages.

  • Collaborate with CAD, PD, STA, and implementation teams to optimize physical-design flows and methodologies.
  • Identify execution bottlenecks and implement flow changes to improve QoR, runtime, and scalability.
  • Drive automation across floorplanning, place-and-route, STA, and ECO processes.
  • Develop utilities, scripts, and frameworks to automate flows and reporting.
  • Support MCMM timing closure and signoff tracking; debug flow-related timing issues.
  • Standardize best practices to improve execution consistency across projects and nodes.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and useful additional skills.

  • Must have: Strong understanding of end-to-end physical-design flow and signoff methodology (floorplan, PnR, STA, ECO).
  • Must have: Hands-on experience with industry tools such as Innovus, Fusion Compiler (FC), PrimeTime, and Tempus.
  • Must have: Practical experience with MCMM flows, STA concepts, and timing/debug methodologies.
  • Must have: Strong scripting and automation skills (Tcl, Python, Unix/Linux shell; Perl a plus).
  • Must have: Experience debugging flow execution and coordinating fixes with CAD teams.
  • Nice to have: Experience building dashboards, reports, or data-visualization for flow metrics and signoff tracking.
  • Required travel: up to 10%.

Education Requirements

B.Tech or M.Tech (or higher) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related technical field; the posting specifies 8+ years of experience alongside the degree requirement.
