Staff Engineer Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the development and deployment of physical design methodologies and CAD automation for corporate digital flows. Provide technical consultation on place-and-route and rail/power analysis to business units to enable successful tapeouts.
Work as part of a global CAD/methodology team to integrate EDA tool flows and deliver centralized, automated solutions.
Experience Level
Senior — approximately 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop physical design methodologies for digital flows using Cadence, Synopsys, and Mentor Graphics tool suites.
- Automate and integrate CAD flows with the global methodology/CAD team for centralized deployment.
- Provide technical expertise and consultation on place-and-route and rail/power analysis to business units to ensure successful tapeouts.
- Debug EDA tool issues and collaborate with tool vendors and design teams to resolve problems.
- Mentor engineers and influence cross-functional design development across global teams.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills:
- Proven experience developing CAD/physical design solutions and digital implementation flows (RTL to GDSII) with multi-million gate SoC tapeouts.
- Strong scripting and automation skills: TCL, Python, Perl, Tk.
- Experience debugging vendor EDA tool problems and supporting designers during tapeout.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for global collaboration and influence.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10%.
- Nice-to-have: experience in low-power design methodologies and sub-10nm technologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's engineering degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Micro-Electronics, or equivalent practical experience.
