Staff Engineer, Photolithography
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Staff Engineer, Photolithography
Role Summary
Work on photolithography challenges for memory devices with emphasis on overlay and scribe-mark performance. Support optical simulation and mark design, lead projects to close photolithography performance gaps for current and future memory nodes, and provide technical guidance across teams and vendors.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical experience: 3β5+ years in semiconductor lithography or processing depending on degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include simulation, project leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and technical guidance related to overlay and scribe marks.
- Model and simulate optical behavior for scribe/overlay marks and provide design recommendations.
- Identify root causes for complex overlay and scribe issues; develop corrective actions.
- Define and lead multidisciplinary projects addressing photolithography performance for N, N+1, N+2 nodes.
- Collaborate with vendor applications teams and suppliers to improve overlay scribe performance.
- Standardize methods and procedures across areas, departments, and fabs.
- Report plans, experimental progress, and conclusions in written technical reports.
- Advise senior management on technical issues related to overlay and scribe marks.
- Provide training and mentorship to other photolithography engineers on simulation and best practices.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools into daily work where appropriate to improve efficiency and quality.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and abilities, followed by nice-to-have items.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of photolithography principles and optical metrology.
- Must-have: Solid knowledge of how lens aberrations, scanner chuck differences, and process variations affect overlay.
- Must-have: Ability to analyze alignment and overlay mark behavior and translate findings into actionable controls.
- Must-have: Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills; ability to build relationships across teams and with suppliers.
- Must-have: Baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to use AI-enabled tools responsibly.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with overlay mark simulation software.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with semiconductor process integration and production-readiness development.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience working with vendor application teams to deliver process improvements.
Education Requirements
M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, or a relevant field with at least 3 years of semiconductor lithography experience. A B.S. in Engineering with 5 years of semiconductor processing experience with emphasis on lithography will also be considered.
