Job Title
Staff Engineer, HIG HBM Layout
Role Summary
Senior layout engineer on Micron's HBM team responsible for creating and delivering block-level and full-chip custom/analog/mixed-signal layouts for High Bandwidth Memory used in AI and HPC applications. The role collaborates with global design and verification teams and supports multiple projects and tape-outs.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 8 to 15 years of experience in analog/custom IC layout design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, verification, delivery, and coordination of custom layout projects.
- Design and develop critical analog, mixed-signal and custom digital blocks and support full-chip integration.
- Perform physical verification (LVS/DRC/Antenna), quality checks and documentation for layouts.
- Deliver block-level layouts on schedule with required quality and manufacturability considerations.
- Plan, estimate area/time, schedule and execute multiple layout projects; drive to project milestones.
- Guide and review work of junior layout engineers and provide technical mentorship.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with global engineering teams to ensure successful layout integration.
- Support multiple tape-outs and handle project-management activities related to layout delivery.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required and desirable for success in this role.
Must-have:
- Proven hands-on experience in analog/custom layout design in advanced CMOS processes (planar, FinFET).
- Proficiency with Cadence VLE/VXL and Mentor Graphics Calibre DRC/LVS.
- Experience creating layouts for critical analog blocks (e.g., temperature sensor, PLL, ADC, DAC, LDO, bandgap, reference generators, charge pumps, current mirrors, comparators, differential amplifiers).
- Strong understanding of analog layout fundamentals (matching, electromigration, latch-up, coupling, crosstalk, IR-drop, parasitics) and how layout affects circuit performance (speed, capacitance, power, area).
- Ability to interpret design constraints, implement high-quality layouts, and perform physical verification of custom layouts.
- Experience managing multiple layout projects and performing quality checks throughout layout development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Multiple tape-out support experience.
Education Requirements
BE or MTech in Electronic or VLSI Engineering.
