Staff Engineer - HIG Component Validation
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Staff Engineer - HIG Component Validation
Role Summary
Individual contributor on the HBM Product Engineering Component Validation team responsible for post-silicon validation and debug of advanced High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. Drive validation coverage, execute and analyze validation runs, and lead failure analysis toward zero-escape validation across test modes and product milestones.
Work within Micron's global validation organization and collaborate with design, systems, and cross-site teams. Adopt automation and AI-enabled workflows to accelerate validation and debug activities.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum 6 years of relevant experience (memory semiconductor industry preferred).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include defining validation scope, executing tests, debugging failures, and improving validation efficiency through tooling and automation.
- Translate DRAM/HBM design intent and architecture into verification scope and test cases.
- Validate new and high-risk product features in coordination with Design Validation and Systems Engineering.
- Review specifications, schematics, and datasheets; provide product engineering feedback in design and verification reviews.
- Read, analyze, and debug circuit schematics to detect design-related failure mechanisms and recommend verification/fault-diagnosis approaches.
- Perform root-cause analysis and electrical failure debug on validation findings; distinguish design marginality from process/test issues.
- Implement, run, and analyze validation tests across modes and product achievements.
- Apply automation and tooling (Python, C, C++, Verilog, UVM, simulation) to improve detection efficiency and cycle time.
- Adopt agentic and LLM-based workflows for tasks such as automated code generation, code review, and failure-analysis acceleration.
- Collaborate with multi-functional and multi-site teams to resolve issues and mentor junior engineers as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Strong understanding of DRAM and HBM structure, operation, and build concepts.
- Proven experience reading and debugging circuit schematics to isolate failure causes.
- Extensive post-silicon product validation and electrical failure analysis experience, including root-cause analysis.
- Solid programming experience on Linux with Python, C, and C++.
- Experience with Verilog, UVM for simulation, and version control systems (git, svn, Perforce).
- Experience applying automation and modern tooling to improve validation throughput and quality.
Preferred:
- Experience developing validation coverage and supporting feature/design-issue validation for HBM or advanced DRAM products.
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and high-speed I/O / signal-integrity validation.
- Experience validating products spanning hardware, firmware, and software components.
- Experience applying generative-AI or agentic tooling to semiconductor design, test, or validation workflows.
- Experience mentoring engineers and collaborating across multiple sites and time zones.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. The role specifies a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the memory semiconductor industry.
