Staff Engineer, Firmware Engineering
Analog DevicesJob Title
Staff Engineer, Firmware Engineering
Role Summary
Join the Cloud and Datacenter Power firmware team to develop firmware for next-generation multiphase buck VR solutions used in datacenter and communications power delivery. The role focuses on low-level embedded firmware, system validation, and cross-functional collaboration with analog, digital, and system designers.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 8+ years of SoC/ASIC firmware experience designing, implementing, and validating firmware for digital and mixed-signal designs.
Responsibilities
Deliver and validate embedded firmware and low-level system software for power-delivery products; support verification through simulation, emulation, and lab testing.
- Design, implement, and validate embedded assembly and C firmware for chips and products used in power delivery.
- Define and verify subsystem requirements and confirm chip/system operation.
- Test and debug firmware via Verilog simulations, FPGA-based emulation, and on-chip lab testing using scopes, logic analyzers, and automation.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation and follow coding standards.
- Participate in code reviews and enforce best practices in software tool chains.
- Collaborate with analog, digital, system designers, product managers, and applications engineers.
- Incorporate security considerations and algorithms into firmware designs.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize work to meet schedules.
Requirements
Key qualifications and desirable skills for successful candidates.
- Must-have: 8+ years of firmware experience for SoC/ASIC or equivalent practical experience; experience with embedded C and assembly for low-level system software.
- Must-have: Experience testing and debugging firmware using Verilog simulations, FPGA emulation platforms, and lab equipment; strong lab debugging skills (oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
- Must-have: Knowledge of software development tool chains, coding standards, documentation practices, and participation in code reviews.
- Must-have: Understanding of power management and power delivery subsystems; ability to validate chip/system operations.
- Must-have: Familiarity with security algorithms relevant to embedded systems.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with SystemVerilog, C++, Python and developing helper tools or automation scripts.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with multi-phase power converters, power architecture for cloud/datacenter markets, and embedded controllers (8051, ARM, RISC-V).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with embedded development environments (Keil, Eclipse, Visual Studio) and presenting system requirements to cross-functional teams.
- Required travel: Yes, approximately 10%.
