Staff Engineer, ESSD Firmware
Role Summary
Design, implement, validate, and debug high-performance controller firmware for SSDs and memory subsystems. Work with cross-functional hardware, SoC, and systems teams to meet performance, power, and latency targets.
Primary activities include firmware development, bench testing, failure triage, bug reporting, and supporting product bring-up and root-cause analysis.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Typical experience: 7+ years in embedded firmware or storage firmware development.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on firmware development, validation, and troubleshooting for SSD controllers and related storage systems.
- Design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for SSD controllers and memory subsystems.
- Develop automated tests, bench test procedures, and debugging tools.
- Perform failure triage, debug hardware/firmware interactions, and file actionable bug reports.
- Collaborate with SoC, hardware, and systems teams to meet performance, power, and latency targets.
- Analyze test results, determine root cause of failures, and drive fixes to closure.
- Mentor and lead junior engineers; provide technical guidance during development and validation.
Requirements
Required technical skills and experience.
Must-have:- Extensive embedded firmware development experience.
- Proficiency in Python and other scripting languages for automation and testing.
- Experience in the storage industry (SSD, HDD, storage systems) and with NAND flash.
- Familiarity with storage interfaces such as PCIe/NVMe, SATA, or SAS.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks under pressure.
- Experience leading teams or supervising junior engineers.
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to firmware or system automation.
- Experience with SoC integration and performance optimization.
