Staff Engineer - Embedded Software

Role Summary

Senior embedded software engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and validating firmware and system software for Analog Devices products. Works with cross-functional hardware and software teams to define requirements, deliver reliable embedded solutions, and lead architecture and testing efforts.

This role focuses on real-time and bare-metal systems (Zephyr, Linux), performance and power optimization, system-level validation, and mentoring junior engineers.

Experience Level

Senior — requires at least 5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include system architecture, implementation, verification, and cross-team integration.

• Architect, develop, and maintain embedded software for microcontrollers and microprocessors (RTOS and bare-metal).
• Lead software architecture and design, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
• Define and execute system-level test strategies; develop and maintain test automation frameworks.
• Perform testing, debugging, validation, and performance and power optimizations.
• Integrate software with hardware, collaborate with hardware engineers, and ensure reliable operation across subsystems.
• Work with multi-threaded and multi-core environments; manage version control and defect tracking workflows.
• Produce technical documentation and participate in open-source contributions where relevant.
• Travel up to ~10% as required for collaboration, testing, or customer interactions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and experience.

• At least 5 years of firmware/embedded software development experience.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills and experience with microcontroller peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADCs, DACs, timers, PWM, GPIO).
• Experience with bare-metal programming and RTOS (Zephyr) and Linux-based embedded systems.
• Experience with multi-core system validation, unit testing, software verification, and test automation.
• Experience developing and testing multi-threaded applications.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting and test automation.
• Proficient with Git and defect-tracking tools; familiarity with CI/CD practices is a plus.
• Experience using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators) and JTAG/ICE debuggers.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging skills, and experience in software architecture and design patterns.
• Good communication and collaboration skills; ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

• Knowledge of AI/ML, computer vision, and image processing.
• FPGA development and firmware programming experience.
• Experience with GenAI tools in the software development lifecycle.
• Working knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) and algorithm testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
