Staff Engineer, Digital Design Engineering
Role Summary
Lead digital design for FPGA/ASIC-based modules and subsystems used in electronic warfare, communications, and phased array radar within the Aerospace & Defense Sensors, Subsystems & Space business unit. Work across design, test, manufacturing, program management, and customers to deliver products from research through production.
This role requires deep cross-domain technical expertise and strong cross-functional leadership to drive complex digital design projects.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Typically requires 8+ years of relevant digital design engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Lead and execute digital design tasks across system and board levels; mentor teams and coordinate with stakeholders.
- Develop FPGA-based designs for digital data and control paths: schematic, RTL, simulation, analysis, and interface validation.
- Define and implement system-level digital architectures for complex designs.
- Lead technical teams on complex digital design projects and mentor engineers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for new product development, system design, and performance verification of hardware and software.
- Engage with customers to capture technical requirements and propose solutions.
- Influence product direction and technical roadmaps.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, eligibility, and travel expectations.
- Expert in RTL design (Verilog, VHDL), simulation, and timing closure for large FPGAs.
- Board-level design experience: part selection, schematic capture, debug, and optimization.
- High-speed interface design and bring-up experience (e.g., 100 GigE, Aurora, PCIe).
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Allegro, PADS) and signal integrity practices.
- Skilled in design techniques that maximize isolation and prevent signal integrity issues.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DoD radar, electronic warfare, or RF communications algorithms.
- Familiarity with C#, Python, C/C++, and TCL.
- Familiarity with RF systems and low-complexity DC power tree design and voltage sequencing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field; or equivalent practical experience.
