Staff Engineer, Diagnostic Development
Role Summary
Develop diagnostics software and infrastructure to validate, stress-test, and bring up ASICs, boards, and AI compute systems. Work on system-level diagnostics across pre-silicon and post-silicon phases to ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
This role is hybrid, based out of Toronto, ON, Canada, and involves close collaboration with firmware, software, board, ASIC design, verification, and manufacturing teams.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff-level). Tenstorrent notes candidates at various experience levels may be considered during interviews; offers will align to assessed level.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing diagnostics, validating hardware, and improving diagnostics infrastructure.
- Design, implement, and maintain diagnostics and stress tests for ASICs, boards, and AI compute systems.
- Perform bring-up and validation of SoCs and boards in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
- Debug complex system-level issues using tools such as JTAG, hardware interfaces, and internal scripts.
- Collaborate with firmware, software, ASIC design, board engineering, verification, and manufacturing teams to diagnose failures and provide actionable feedback.
- Drive improvements to diagnostics infrastructure for scalability, repeatability, and reuse across products and teams.
- Develop automated test flows and integrate diagnostics into production and test environments.
Requirements
Looking for a hands-on engineer who can work across hardware and software to deliver robust diagnostics.
- Must-have: Proven experience developing diagnostics or bring-up software for ASICs, SoCs, or complex boards; strong system-level debugging skills (JTAG, hardware interfaces, scripting).
- Must-have: Experience collaborating with firmware, ASIC design, board engineering, verification, and manufacturing teams to resolve hardware/software issues.
- Must-have: Practical experience writing and maintaining diagnostics code and test automation; familiarity with low-level languages and scripting (e.g., C/C++, Python, shell).
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to RISC-V platforms, AI accelerator hardware, production test flows, or test infrastructure design.
- Nice-to-have: Experience improving diagnostics infrastructure for scalability and reuse across multiple product generations.
