Job Title

Staff Engineer – DFT Engineering

Role Summary

Senior DFT engineer on the VLSI design team responsible for designing, validating, and optimizing on-chip testability features for complex ASICs. The role partners with design, verification, physical design and test teams to ensure manufacturable and debuggable silicon.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 7–10 years of hands-on DFT experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement DFT features (scan chains, compression, LBIST, MBIST, boundary scan, JTAG) to improve testability.
  • Generate high-quality ATPG patterns (stuck-at, transition fault) using on-chip compression techniques and optimize coverage.
  • Perform DFT DRC checks in RTL and netlist databases to ensure compliance with DFT rules.
  • Validate DFT structures and patterns in RTL and netlist, with and without SDF, and debug failures.
  • Use Cadence/Siemens DFT tools for scan stitching, ATPG, MBIST, DRC and coverage improvement.
  • Coordinate with verification and physical design teams on DFT verification plans and implementation/constraints for synthesis/STA.
  • Analyze test failures and collaborate with test engineering to resolve silicon issues.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior DFT engineers.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 7–10 years of practical experience in DFT methodologies and implementation.
  • Deep experience with LBIST, ATPG, DFT DRC, scan compression, low-power DFT techniques, MBIST, boundary scan, analog/PHY DFT, and JTAG architecture.
  • Hands-on use of Cadence and Siemens DFT EDA tools for scan stitching, ATPG, coverage improvement, MBIST and boundary-scan flows.
  • Proficiency in scripting for automation (Perl, Tcl and/or Python).
  • Solid understanding of digital design fundamentals: RTL coding, Lint/CDC, low-power checks and full ASIC design flow.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~10% as required.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related technical field.
