Staff Engineer - DEG Layout
Role Summary
Staff-level layout engineer on the DEG/layout team based in Bengaluru. Responsible for designing and delivering analog, mixed-signal, custom digital blocks, standard cells and full-chip layouts in advanced CMOS processes.
Focus areas include layout development, physical verification, automation and collaboration with global engineering teams to meet tape-out schedules and quality targets.
Experience Level
Senior β typical experience range: 10 to 14 years in analog/custom layout design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, verification and delivery of layout blocks and support of full-chip integration.
- Develop layout for critical analog, mixed-signal, custom digital blocks, standard cells and full-chip level.
- Perform physical verification: LVS, DRC, antenna checks, matching, latch-up, EM/IR/Totem checks and quality documentation.
- Implement digital block layouts using automatic placement-and-route tools where applicable.
- Estimate area/time, plan schedules, delegate tasks and drive on-time delivery across multiple projects.
- Mentor and review work of junior engineers and coordinate with global engineering teams.
- Drive layout automation and reduction of layout effort using scripting and AI tools.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- 10β14 years relevant experience in analog/custom layout design in advanced CMOS processes.
- Proven expertise with Cadence (VLE/VXL) and Mentor Graphics Calibre DRC/LVS.
- Hands-on experience creating layouts for blocks such as temperature sensors, PLL, ADC, DAC, LDO, bandgap, reference generators, charge pumps, current mirrors, comparators and differential amplifiers.
- Strong understanding of analog layout fundamentals: matching, electro-migration, latch-up, coupling/crosstalk, IR-drop, parasitics and their impact on speed, capacitance, power and area.
- Ability to translate design constraints into high-quality, manufacturable layouts and to perform physical verification troubleshooting.
- Experience automating layout tasks and applying AI-assisted methods to reduce effort.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with global teams.
