Staff Engineer CPU IP Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead RTL development of an AI-enabled RISC-V CPU core and associated matrix/vector engines. The role owns microarchitecture, RTL design, and collaborates with verification, modeling, and physical design teams to meet performance, power, area, and timing targets.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include microarchitecture and RTL development, performance optimization, and cross-team integration.
- Define and drive micro-architecture for critical CPU blocks.
- Design RISC-V vector CPU core and custom ISA extensions.
- Design and integrate AI-enabled matrix engine that augments the vector datapath.
- Perform microarchitecture exploration and produce detailed specifications from early models to final RTL.
- Develop and refine RTL to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
- Support functional verification and contribute to verification strategy.
- Assist verification of RTL performance and work with modeling teams on high-performance strategies.
- Collaborate with physical design teams on timing, area, reliability, testability, and power integration.
- Follow and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Hands-on knowledge of CPU pipeline stages for in-order or out-of-order high-performance cores.
- Deep microprocessor architecture experience, including one or more of: instruction fetch/decode and branch prediction; instruction scheduling and register renaming; ROB and out-of-order execution; integer/FPU pipelines; load/store execution; prefetch; vector datapaths; cache and memory subsystems.
- Understanding of cache coherence and memory consistency models.
- Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog and/or VHDL and experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools.
- Solid grasp of digital logic design, timing, and power trade-offs.
Education Requirements
Employer requests a Master's degree with approximately 4β7 years of relevant experience, or a PhD with approximately 2β5 years of relevant experience. No other degree fields or equivalents were specified.
