Staff Engineer, CE CAD
Role Summary
Senior CAD/EDA engineer in the Memory Design Group responsible for developing, integrating, and supporting EDA tools and physical-design flows for CMOS memory products. The role partners with design, layout, verification, and process teams to improve productivity, quality, and time-to-market.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of relevant industry experience or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
Responsibilities
Provide production support, tool development, and process improvements for physical design and verification flows.
- Develop tools, automated flows, and methodologies to increase design and layout productivity and reliability.
- Integrate and evaluate commercial EDA tools into internal design flows; identify deficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Support RTL‑to‑GDS flows, layout flows (DRC/LVS), floorplanning, automated place-and-route, and extraction flows.
- Perform tool evaluations with internal customers and define improved flows for efficiency and cost.
- Provide training, documentation, and day-to-day support to design, layout, verification, and process teams.
- Maintain and support engineering infrastructure used by design teams.
- Conduct independent R&D on next‑generation CAD software to meet product needs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Strong programming fundamentals; experience with Unix and shell scripting.
- Good knowledge of CMOS circuits, deep‑submicron physical design, manufacturing, and layout design rules.
- Experience with layout verification and flows such as Calibre DRC/LVS and SPF extraction.
- Experience with design‑simulation tools and languages: Verilog, Verilog‑A, ncverilog, VCS, Spice/FastSpice, FineSim/PrimeSim, HSPICE.
- Hands-on experience with RTL‑to‑GDS flows and integrating EDA tools into production flows.
- Ability to evaluate EDA product offerings and apply them to improve performance and efficiency.
- Experience creating user documentation, delivering training, and providing production support.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to perform independent R&D when needed.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso/DFII and SKILL; proficiency with Python and Python Qt frameworks.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or EECS is preferred; the posting specifies 5+ years of industry experience. (Degree requirement listed as preferred.)
