Staff Engineer, CAD PD/STA

Role Summary

This role provides production support and development of EDA tool flows for physical layout, place-and-route (PnR), and static timing analysis (STA) for advanced DRAM/SOC designs.

Work closely with Design and Layout teams and EDA vendors to diagnose issues, deploy tool updates, and automate flows to improve design productivity and signoff quality.

Experience Level

Senior - Staff-level. Posting requests a minimum of 4–5+ years (Master's with 4+ years or Bachelor's with 5+ years as specified).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building, maintaining, and improving PnR and STA flows and supporting signoff at SOC level.

• Develop and maintain place-and-route flows for advanced technology nodes (DRAM and SOC).
• Implement hierarchical flows, UPF integration, and process-specific customizations.
• Define and validate STA constraints and manage corners, derates, uncertainties, jitter, and IR drop margins.
• Execute critical timing and power ECOs, including metal ECOs for signoff.
• Collaborate with EDA vendors to deploy tools, report issues, and validate fixes.
• Customize and script EDA tools to automate and improve designer efficiency.
• Lead adoption of AI-assisted and rule-aware automation to accelerate placement, routing, and optimization.
• Support global design teams on PnR flow integration and methodology rollout.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution.

• Must-have: Hands-on experience with industry-standard PnR and STA tools such as ICC2, Innovus, and PrimeTime.
• Must-have: Strong UNIX proficiency and scripting skills (TCL required; Perl, Shell, Python preferred).
• Must-have: Practical experience defining STA constraints, handling corners and margins, and performing timing/power ECOs to achieve signoff.
• Must-have: In-depth understanding of the full physical design flow and signoff methodologies.
• Nice-to-have: Tape-out experience on leading-edge process nodes and prior vendor interaction for tool deployment.
• Nice-to-have: Experience developing or deploying AI-enabled or agentic automation in EDA flows.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to support cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in those fields with 4+ years of relevant experience (as stated in the posting).
