Staff Engineer, ASIC Design
Role Summary
Staff Engineer responsible for RTL design of storage and memory controllers (SSD, NAND, DDR) within Micron's ASIC teams. The role focuses on implementing high-performance controller data paths, DMA, scheduling, and protocol engines and taking designs through verification, integration, and silicon debug.
Work will involve performance, latency, and power optimization and collaboration with verification and SoC integration teams.
Experience Level
Senior — Staff-level individual contributor. (Title indicates senior-level expectations.)
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include RTL implementation, protocol support, optimization, and support for verification and bring-up.
- Develop SystemVerilog/Verilog RTL for SSD, NAND, and DDR controller blocks (data path, DMA, scheduling).
- Implement and maintain protocol engines and interfaces: NVMe, PCIe, DDR, ONFI/Toggle NAND.
- Optimize RTL for performance, latency, power, and area trade-offs.
- Support verification, integration with SoC subsystems, and silicon debug/troubleshooting.
- Drive automation and scripting for design flows and regressions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and relevant experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: Strong SystemVerilog/Verilog RTL design skills.
- Must-have: Proven experience in storage or memory controller design (SSD, NAND, DDR).
- Must-have: Knowledge of high-speed interfaces and SoC integration, including NVMe and PCIe.
- Must-have: Experience supporting verification, integration, and silicon debug.
- Nice-to-have: Experience applying AI/ML techniques to automation, failure analysis, or performance prediction.
- Nice-to-have: Python scripting for automation and data analysis.
