Staff Engineer, Applications Engineering (STA Expert)
Role Summary
Senior applications engineer responsible for customer-facing support and adoption of the Synopsys PrimeTime static timing analysis (STA) tool across pre-sales, post-sales, and tape-out engagements. Work closely with customers, R&D, product marketing, and sales to solve timing closure issues, run benchmarks, deliver trainings, and drive product improvements.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical guidance: BSEE with 5+ years relevant experience, or MSEE with 3–4 years; equivalent practical experience considered.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Support PrimeTime across pre-sale evaluations, post-sale deployments, and ongoing customer engagements.
- Run competitive benchmarks, lead customer evaluations, and articulate technical advantages to design teams and management.
- Deliver customer training, technical presentations, and hands-on workshops to increase tool proficiency.
- Provide tape-out support: troubleshoot timing closure, signal integrity, and related issues under schedule pressure.
- Collaborate with R&D, product marketing, and sales to relay customer feedback and influence roadmap priorities.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, best-practice guides, and knowledge-base resources.
- Participate in advanced customer collaborations to uncover new use cases and strengthen partnerships.
Requirements
Key skills and qualifications.
- Must-have: Deep hands-on expertise with PrimeTime STA, including advanced features and timing analysis methodologies.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of timing corners, process variation, and signal integrity impacts on timing closure.
- Must-have: Familiarity with synthesis, physical design, extraction, and ECO methodologies as they integrate with STA workflows.
- Must-have: Proficiency in TCL scripting for automation and workflow optimization.
- Must-have: Excellent verbal and written communication; proven experience in customer-facing roles.
- Nice-to-have: Experience delivering technical training or large customer workshops; prior tape-out support on high-volume projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 3–4 years of relevant experience, or equivalent practical experience. Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering or closely related technical disciplines.
