Staff Embedded Software Engineer
Role Summary
Technical owner for automotive embedded firmware across the full software lifecycle for UWB/RTLS, RF connectivity and power-management platforms. Deliver robust, secure, traceable firmware from MCAL drivers to edge SDKs and support integration with hardware and systems teams worldwide.
Your work will be integrated into products used by major automakers and Tier‑1 suppliers.
Experience Level
Senior — 8+ years' experience in automotive embedded software development (professional level).
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include:
- Own firmware design, implementation, unit/integration testing and integration activities.
- Translate software architecture into detailed designs and implementations; ensure link between architecture and development teams.
- Perform firmware safety analysis and contribute to ISO 26262 compliance activities.
- Implement secure software lifecycle features: secure boot, image signing, OTA updates with rollback protection, and secure coding practices.
- Collaborate with Hardware on boot modes, power sequencing and timing synchronization.
- Partner with Systems/Architecture to define interface contracts and NFR budgets (latency, memory, power, reliability).
- Support FAEs and customer integrations; troubleshoot complex field escalations.
- Participate in DFSS/stage‑gate processes, risk detection and mitigation; track software metrics and quality targets.
- Drive continuous improvement, mentor peers and spread best practices across the team.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- 8+ years' experience in automotive embedded software development using ANSI C (C89/C99).
- Experience with microcontroller-based system development and C toolchain (compiler/linker).
- Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks (examples: CppUTest, TESSY, Google Test).
- Strong knowledge of SDLC, agile toolsets and hands-on C programming.
- Experience with UML and Enterprise Architect.
- Familiarity with safe and secure C coding practices and static analysis (e.g. MISRA C).
- Practical knowledge of peripherials (ADC, GPIO, SPI, I2C, UART) and vehicle protocols (LIN, CAN, SENT, PWM, Modbus).
- Proficiency with hardware/software debugging tools (oscilloscopes, JTAG, logic analyzers) and version control (GIT).
- Experience with Vector tools (CANoe / CANalyzer).
- ISO 26262 / functional safety knowledge.
- Strong communication, planning, self-motivation and ability to work across time zones and organizational boundaries.
- Must have legal right to work in Spain.
Nice-to-have:
- Sensor technology and sensor calibration experience.
- Automotive SPICE familiarity.
- Experience with low-power and small-memory footprint coding.
- Ability to read hardware schematics.
- UWB and AUTOSAR knowledge.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Embedded Systems Engineering or a related technical field required. Master's degree in Computer Science or Embedded Systems is preferred.
