Job Title

Staff Embedded Graphics Software Engineer

Role Summary

Senior embedded software engineer responsible for developing, integrating, and validating the GPU hardware adaptation layer (HAL) and graphics software stack for Ambiq MCU platforms. Works within the global MCU software team and collaborates with architecture, SoC design, DV, and system test teams to move graphics features from FPGA emulation to production silicon.

Experience Level

Senior. The role targets candidates with substantial embedded graphics and firmware experience; the posting lists MS +6 years or BS +8 years as the experience baseline.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include development and maintenance of the GPU HAL and graphics SDK, verification support, and system-level debugging.

  • Define and evolve HAL, graphics APIs, middleware, and UI framework integration for embedded GPUs.
  • Design, implement, and maintain GPU HAL and Display HAL integration layers.
  • Develop, integrate, and optimize graphics middleware (e.g., OpenGL ES) and integrate UI frameworks such as LVGL.
  • Profile and improve rendering performance, memory usage, and power efficiency across CPU/GPU/memory/display paths.
  • Create and maintain example applications, benchmarks, and test cases to validate graphics features.
  • Lead GPU-focused pre-silicon verification on FPGA platforms and participate in post-silicon bring-up and system validation.
  • Provide support to Design Verification, System Test, field engineers, and key customers during bring-up and debugging.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and work-authorization requirements. Preferred items are noted.

  • Proven expertise with at least one embedded GPU IP and a solid understanding of the full graphics pipeline; hands-on experience developing HAL and graphics stacks.
  • In-depth experience with OpenGL ES or other 3D graphics APIs.
  • Experience integrating graphics UI frameworks such as LVGL.
  • Experience with vector graphics acceleration or libraries (e.g., OpenVG) preferred.
  • Familiarity with embedded display interfaces (MIPI DSI, DBI, DPI, Memory-In-Pixel).
  • Strong knowledge of ARM architecture, preferably Cortex-M (M-profile) cores.
  • Understanding of embedded RTOS concepts; experience with Zephyr or FreeRTOS preferred.
  • Proficient in C and assembly for Arm Cortex-M processors; experience with MCU IDEs (ARM Keil, IAR, Eclipse, O-zone, etc.).
  • Hands-on lab debugging experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar equipment.
  • Experience with git; familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and collaboration tools.
  • Scripting experience required; Python experience desirable. Familiarity with test automation principles and tools.
  • Strong system-level problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; the company will not sponsor visas for this role.

Education Requirements

MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) or Computer Science with 6+ years of relevant experience, or BS in ECE or Computer Science with 8+ years of relevant experience. Fields specified: Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science. (These degree/experience requirements were listed in the original qualifications.)
