Staff Digital Design Engineer (FPGA)
Role Summary
Senior technical contributor for FPGA and digital design within ADI's Aerospace & Defense Sensors, Subsystems & Space business unit. Design FPGA/ASIC RTL, schematics, and system architectures for electronic warfare, communications, and phased-array radar subsystems.
Work spans research, design, verification, and production phases and requires cross-functional collaboration with design, test, manufacturing, program management, and customers.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Posting specifies ~8+ years of relevant digital design engineering experience and staff-level responsibilities leading technical teams.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include system architecture, FPGA/board design, verification, and technical leadership.
- Develop FPGA-based designs for digital data and control paths: schematic, RTL, simulation, timing closure, and interface validation.
- Define and develop system-level architectures for complex digital designs and influence product technical roadmaps.
- Lead and mentor engineering teams on complex digital design projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Integrate ADI high-speed converters and verify hardware/software performance; support bring-up and testing of high-speed interfaces.
- Engage with customers to define technical requirements and solutions.
- Support production transition and work with manufacturing engineering and program management throughout program phases.
- Travel as required (~10%).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security and eligibility requirements, and other essential qualifications.
- Expert RTL design and verification experience in Verilog and/or VHDL, including simulation and timing closure in large FPGAs.
- High-speed interface design and bring-up experience (examples: 100 GigE, Aurora, PCIe).
- Board-level design experience: part selection, schematic capture, debug, and optimization.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Allegro, PADS).
- Strong signal integrity and isolation design skills.
- Proven ability to define and implement complex digital system architectures and to lead technical teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DoD radar, electronic warfare, or RF communications algorithms.
- Familiarity with C#, Python, C/C++, TCL.
- Familiarity with RF systems and low-complexity DC power tree designs / voltage sequencing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
