Staff Digital Design Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Staff Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Staff-level digital design engineer on the AMD SerDes team in Ireland. Responsible for RTL design and implementation for mixed-signal SerDes IP in advanced CMOS FinFET processes, focusing on clock and data recovery, adaptive digitally assisted control loops, and DSP-based channel equalization.
Work within a mixed-signal design team from architecture through silicon bring-up and characterization.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff). No explicit years-of-experience requirement provided.
Responsibilities
Primary day-to-day responsibilities include:
- RTL implementation of algorithms for clock and data recovery (CDR), adaptive digital control, and DSP-based channel equalization.
- Collaborate with architecture teams to review algorithms and provide implementation feedback.
- Perform initial digital design verification and HDL checks prior to hand-off to the verification team.
- Use industry-standard HDL checking tools (CDC, RDC, lint) and support verification teams in debugging issues.
- Assist with silicon bring-up, hardware debug and characterization.
- Create clear design specifications, documentation, and implementation notes.
Requirements
Key technical requirements and preferred skills.
- Must-have: Extensive experience in RTL design methodologies and design implementation.
- Must-have: Proficiency in a hardware description language such as Verilog (preferred) or VHDL.
- Must-have: Experience with modern digital ASIC methodologies, including verification flows, STA, signal integrity awareness, DFT, synthesis and physical implementation.
- Must-have: Tape-out experience in advanced foundry process technologies and experience with silicon debug, verification and characterization.
- Must-have: Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience specifically with SerDes designs, CDR algorithms, adaptive control loops, or power-efficient channel equalization DSP.
- Familiarity with FinFET process considerations and mixed-signal integration.
- Experience with formal verification or advanced HDL verification methodologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
