Staff DevOps Engineer
ArmJob Title
Staff DevOps Engineer
Role Summary
Hands-on engineering role on the CPU DevOps team responsible for developing and operating infrastructure, tools, and workflows that support Arm CPU design and verification. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering, hardware verification, and high-performance compute.
Work closely with CPU design and verification engineers to improve CI, regression, workload management, observability, and automation for large-scale verification workloads.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff). The role requests approximately 5β10 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and operating infrastructure and automation to improve verification throughput, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain production-quality software and engineering infrastructure following sound software engineering practices.
- Automate CPU development and verification workflows; integrate source control, CI, verification tools, workload schedulers, and engineering services.
- Develop tooling for submitting, managing, monitoring, and analyzing distributed compute workloads at HPC scale.
- Implement and maintain observability: metrics, logging, dashboards, alerting, and automated diagnostics.
- Improve CI and regression infrastructure used by hardware design and verification teams.
- Diagnose and debug cross-domain issues spanning software, verification tools, operating systems, compute infrastructure, and storage.
- Identify bottlenecks and optimize compute utilization, verification throughput, and turnaround time.
- Support large-scale verification workloads running across HPC compute farms and contribute to technical direction for the CPU development environment.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Proven software engineering background with delivery of production-quality software or infrastructure.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: API design, automated testing, debugging, source control, and code review.
- Experience with high-performance or large-scale compute environments and management/monitoring of distributed workloads.
- Expertise in at least one scripting/programming language (Python or Ruby); shell scripting strongly preferred.
- Experience with Linux systems and familiarity with CI/CD or automated build, test, and regression systems.
- Skilled in diagnosing system and application issues using logs, metrics, profiling, tracing, or other observability techniques.
- Familiarity with hardware design and verification flows, including simulation, regression testing, test execution, and failure analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills across multiple components in complex engineering environments and effective communication/collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience in CPU, SoC, ASIC, or semiconductor design and verification environments.
- Knowledge of SystemVerilog and hardware simulation, emulation, or formal verification tools.
- Experience with high-performance workload managers (IBM Spectrum LSF, Slurm) and CI orchestration (Jenkins or similar).
- Linux system programming, performance analysis, containerized environments, and networked storage experience.
- Experience analyzing large volumes of verification/regression data and automated packaging/release flows.
Education Requirements
Degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related subject area. The posting specifies 5β10 years of relevant experience as required; a degree is desirable but equivalent experience is acceptable.
