Staff Design Engineer
ArmJob Title
Staff Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead and deliver complex digital IP or SoC design projects within a cross-functional engineering team. The role combines hands-on RTL design and architecture work with technical leadership, problem solving, and coordination across verification, physical design and software teams.
Experience Level
Senior - typically a Staff-level role. Candidates are generally expected to have substantial industry experience (roughly 7+ years) in digital ASIC/SoC design or equivalent.
Responsibilities
Deliver design features and improvements; provide technical leadership for architecture, implementation and integration.
- Define and implement RTL for complex digital blocks and subsystems; drive microarchitecture and design trade-offs (performance, area, power).
- Collaborate with verification, physical design, firmware and system teams to ensure correct, timely integration into SoC.
- Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and coordinate cross-team technical decisions and schedules.
- Debug silicon and pre-silicon issues; analyze timing, power and area metrics and propose mitigations.
- Produce clear design documentation and specifications; support validation and bring-up activities.
Requirements
Core technical skills and proven track record delivering silicon or IP projects.
- Must-have: Extensive experience in digital ASIC/SoC design (RTL implementation and debug) and strong understanding of digital microarchitecture and system integration.
- Must-have: Experience working with cross-functional teams (verification, physical design, firmware, system architects) and mentoring other engineers.
- Must-have: Strong problem solving, communication skills, and ability to lead technical decisions for complex projects.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Arm architecture or experience with low-power, high-performance processor/GPU design.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with industry-standard languages and flows (SystemVerilog/Verilog, common EDA tools, timing/power analysis tools).
