Job Title
Staff, Customer Engineering (CE) – Server Processor Platforms
Role Summary
Provide technical leadership and customer-facing hardware support for strategic customers (hyperscalers, OEMs, ODMs) adopting Qualcomm server processor SoCs. Serve as the technical interface between customers and internal product, design, systems, validation, and firmware teams to enable design, bring-up, validation, and commercialization of server platforms.
The role works within the Customer Engineering (CE) Server team and collaborates across thermal, power, SI/PI, firmware, and systems disciplines to ensure customer designs meet performance and reliability requirements.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff-level). Preferred: 6+ years of hardware applications engineering or hardware design experience in server platform design, bring-up, or customer-facing roles.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include technical customer support throughout the product lifecycle and cross-functional coordination to resolve platform issues.
- Provide hardware support to customers during design, bring-up, validation, and deployment of server systems.
- Act as the technical interface between customer hardware teams and internal engineering/product teams.
- Review customer schematics, PCB layouts, thermal designs, power delivery networks, and signal integrity plans.
- Support SoC interface validation and debug across DDR, PCIe Gen6/Gen7, CXL, Ethernet, and other high-speed interfaces.
- Collaborate with CE, design, software, validation, and product teams to address technical challenges and customer feedback.
- Identify gaps between customer and internal design expectations and propose practical mitigations.
- Learn and apply reference platform implementation guides to assist customer development.
- Create technical documentation, training materials, and onboarding resources for customers.
- Drive improvements in support processes and infrastructure to scale across engagements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; preferred items are listed separately.
- Proven customer-facing hardware engineering experience supporting server platform deployments (hyperscalers/OEMs/ODMs).
- Deep knowledge of high-speed board design and validation: DDR5, PCIe Gen6/Gen7, CXL, SerDes, Ethernet.
- Power delivery network (PDN) design experience and familiarity with SI/PI simulation and debug practices.
- Experience with system bring-up and debug tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, etc.).
- Familiarity with system firmware interactions during hardware validation (UEFI, BMC, BIOS).
- Programming or scripting skills for automation and debug (e.g., Python, shell).
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams and manage customer engagements autonomously.
Nice-to-have:
- SoC integration, silicon debug/validation experience.
- Participation in server platform standardization efforts (OCP, JEDEC, PCI-SIG).
- Experience with AI/ML, HPC, or cloud workload requirements on server platforms.
Education Requirements
Degree or equivalent experience required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant hardware applications/design experience; or Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years relevant experience; or PhD in those fields with 2+ years relevant experience. The posting also accepts equivalent practical work experience in lieu of a degree.
