Job Title

Staff Board Power Application Engineer

Role Summary

Senior-level Board Power / Power Distribution engineer on the Packaging, Boards and Multiphysics team. Responsible for board-level power architecture, PDN design and validation for systems that incorporate Arm SoCs and high-performance compute platforms. Work includes prototype development, cross-functional collaboration, and supplier/customer interaction to ensure robust, efficient power delivery.

Experience Level

Senior - typically requires 8+ years of experience in power distribution and design.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include:

  • Define board power architectures and power trees; select VR components to meet efficiency, transient response, and ripple requirements.
  • Simulate and analyze board PDNs using tools such as SIMPLIS, SPICE, PowerDC and Ansys SIWave.
  • Develop schematics and review PCB layouts to ensure robust power delivery and power integrity.
  • Collaborate with SoC architects, thermal, layout, and SI/PI teams on layout optimization, PDN and telemetry requirements.
  • Validate and debug power solutions in the lab using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, load slammers and other test equipment.
  • Support customer design-in of VR/PMIC solutions and coordinate with suppliers on floor-planning, telemetry, thermal, EMI/EMC and cost trade-offs.
  • Document power trees, test reports, design specifications and simulation results; contribute to datasheets, application notes and design guides.

Requirements

Key required skills and preferred additions.

  • Must-have: 8+ years of experience in power distribution and design; proficiency in DC-DC converter topologies (buck, boost, multiphase), PWM controllers, MOSFETs and power stages; familiarity with telemetry interfaces (PMBus, SMBus, AVBus).
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SIMPLIS, SPICE, PowerDC and Ansys SIWave.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB layout considerations for power circuits, PDN and PI analysis, and dynamic load testing/slamming techniques.
  • Practical lab experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and power integrity test setups.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and thermal management for high-power-density systems.
  • Nice-to-have: MCU or FPGA-based prototyping experience; scripting or automation with Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
