Staff Applications Scientist

Role Summary

Lead customer-facing technical engagements to develop implant and process solutions that improve device performance and yield. Work with R&D, product marketing, and factory teams to translate device and process roadmaps into differentiated product strategies.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience guidance: Bachelors +10 years, Master's +6 years, or Doctorate 4–6 years in leading-edge logic device fabrication, research, or equipment manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Principal responsibilities include strategic market and technology development, device and process leadership, and managing customer technical programs.

• Identify market inflections, competitive threats, and opportunities for share and TAM growth; define segmentation and requirements.
• Deliver competitive analysis and develop product/business strategy with product marketing alignment.
• Provide technology leadership and roadmap input (N to N+2) and act as subject-matter expert for device matching and troubleshooting.
• Own technical engagement programs and technical roadmap meetings with customers while protecting IP.
• Manage local technical resources and coordinate with factory teams to ensure installed-base performance and customer satisfaction.
• Discover customers' high-value technical problems, design alternative technology solutions, and drive process integration collaborations with consortia or partners.

• Deep knowledge of semiconductor device physics, process integration, materials processing, and wafer fabrication/clean-room protocols.
• Proven ability to interface with, negotiate with, and coach customers on technical issues; lead proactive and reactive problem resolution.
• Apply scientific method: design experiments, use statistical process control, analyze data, troubleshoot complex problems, and prepare technical reports.
• Experience managing technical programs, protecting IP, and coordinating cross-functional teams (product marketing, factory, R&D).
• Strong written and verbal communication, presentation and training skills, time management, and priority setting.
• Familiarity with basic business and financial practices and experience supervising or guiding others is beneficial.

Bachelor's degree with 10+ years, Master's degree with 6+ years, or Doctorate with 4–6 years in leading-edge logic device fabrication, research, or equipment manufacturing environment.
