Staff Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Work directly with customer design teams to deploy and integrate Synopsys EDA solutions, diagnose complex design issues, and deliver automation and methodologies that improve design quality and engineering productivity.
The role is on the Applications Engineering team and requires collaboration with customers, R&D, product engineering, and product management to drive adoption and resolve technical challenges.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Typically 7+ years of relevant experience in ASIC/FPGA/SoC design or EDA domains.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer engagement, technical support, debugging, and automation.
- Partner with customers to define technical requirements and implement solutions using Synopsys tools.
- Deploy, integrate, and troubleshoot EDA tool flows within customer environments.
- Analyze design flows, reproduce issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions or workarounds.
- Provide pre-sales technical support: evaluations, demonstrations, and technical troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with R&D and product teams to resolve product issues and communicate customer requirements.
- Develop scripts, automation, and design methodologies to improve quality-of-results and productivity.
- Create application notes, best-practice guides, and reusable technical artifacts.
- Manage customer engagements and deliverables with ownership.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful candidates.
- Proven industry experience in ASIC, FPGA, or SoC design, implementation, or verification.
- Hands-on experience with EDA tools in one or more areas: synthesis, physical design, simulation, timing analysis, formal or functional verification.
- Strong understanding of digital design, SoC architectures, semiconductor design flows, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in scripting (Tcl, Python, Perl, Shell) and ability to build automation.
- Experience analyzing design reports, tool logs, and quality-of-results metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to develop practical solutions and improve design flows.
- Strong written and verbal communication and customer-facing skills; ability to collaborate across teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
