Staff Application Engineer - Physical Implementation

Role Summary

Member of the Application Engineering team in Bengaluru supporting customers on physical implementation flows and Synopsys EDA tools. The role focuses on solving complex performance, power and area (PPA) challenges, benchmarking solutions, and enabling customer migration to new tool versions and technology nodes.

The position requires direct customer engagement, collaboration with R&D to translate findings into product requirements, and delivery of technical solutions that improve quality-of-results.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in synthesis and physical implementation or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Solve complex PPA challenges using Synopsys implementation technologies, including physical synthesis and RTL-to-GDSII flows.
• Address formal verification and early power estimation issues for customer designs.
• Benchmark Synopsys solutions against competitors and demonstrate superior results to enable tool adoption.
• Develop, debug and optimize synthesis and implementation methodologies for advanced technology nodes.
• Identify design and EDA tool issues, provide actionable resolutions to customers, and drive long-term fixes with R&D.
• Deploy new tool features and enable customer migrations to deliver best-in-class PPA.
• Proactively identify customer pain points and propose innovative solutions.
• Act as a customer advocate internally and represent Synopsys externally when needed.

• Must-have: Minimum 5 years of experience in synthesis with demonstrable ability to debug and resolve synthesis challenges, including low-power techniques; strong exposure to methodology changes focused on meeting PPA targets; advanced scripting skills (TCL, Unix shell, Perl); strong communication and customer-facing skills.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with formal verification tools and flows; familiarity with AI/ML-based implementation techniques and RTL-to-GDS flows; experience benchmarking and displacing competitor flows.
