Staff Application Engineer — Physical Implementation

Role Summary

Provide technical application engineering support for Synopsys physical implementation products and flows. Work with customers and internal engineering teams to solve complex timing, congestion, and implementation issues on ASIC/SoC designs.

This role is part of the Applications Engineering team in Bengaluru and focuses on deploying, tuning, and validating physical implementation flows and delivering customer-facing solutions and documentation.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Lead customer engagements to diagnose and resolve physical implementation problems (timing closure, congestion, area, power).
• Develop, validate, and optimize place-and-route flows and scripts for complex SoC/ASIC designs.
• Collaborate with R&D to reproduce issues, provide feedback, and drive product enhancements.
• Create technical documentation, application notes, and examples for customers and internal teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices within the Applications Engineering organization.

Requirements

Key qualifications and skills.

• Must-have: Strong hands-on experience with physical implementation and place-and-route flows for ASIC/SoC designs; proficiency in scripting (Tcl, Python) and flow automation; strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills; excellent written and verbal communication for customer interaction.
• Must-have: Experience working with EDA tools in a production tapeout environment and familiarity with timing analysis, STA, and parasitic-aware flows.
• Nice-to-have: Prior application engineering or customer-facing EDA support experience; knowledge of signoff flows, low-power techniques, or advanced node process challenges.
