SRAM/ROM Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design CMOS SRAM and ROM circuits and supporting periphery for internal memory compiler products used across NXP SoC teams. The role sits in the Design Enablement/Foundation IP organization and collaborates with layout, CAD, and verification teams to meet performance, power, area, and functional-safety targets.

Position is based in Austin, TX with an expected in-office cadence of at least three days per week.

Experience Level

Senior — 8+ years industry experience (or 6+ years with a Master's degree) working on SRAM memory circuit design and advanced CMOS technologies.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include circuit design, characterization, verification, and cross-team integration for memory compilers.

• Implement SRAM/ROM circuits and peripheral blocks to meet compiler targets for performance, power, area, and safety/scan requirements.
• Create, run, and analyze simulation characterization tests and benchmarks; compare results to targets.
• Collaborate with layout teams to optimize leaf-cell implementation for area and performance.
• Work with CAD teams to integrate new designs into characterization, verification, and regression flows.
• Align designs with modeling/verification (behavioral/ATPG/emulation) to ensure consistency.
• Coordinate with global memory teams to share methodologies and best practices.
• Use internal LLM/GenAI tools and EDA vendor GenAI solutions to improve design efficiency.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; includes preferred items where noted.

• 8+ years industry experience in SRAM memory circuit design (experience with advanced CMOS process nodes such as 5nm and beyond preferred).
• Proven experience with Cadence Virtuoso and other industry-standard EDA tools.
• Strong scripting ability (Perl, Tcl, or Python).
• Experience generating and evaluating simulation characterization and testbenches.
• Demonstrated collaboration with layout and CAD teams to deliver circuit IP into characterization and regression flows.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; creative approach to circuit implementation.
• Nice-to-have: familiarity with automotive design rules and memory design requirements.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: Master's degree. (The posting also cites experience equivalence for senior-level candidates but specifies degree requirements as above.)
