SRAM Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation of high-performance SRAM and memory structures used in AMD CPU cores. The role collaborates with architecture, RTL, circuit design, and physical design teams to optimize power, performance, area, and schedule.
Experience Level
Mid-level engineering role. Specific years of experience not specified; prior experience with high-speed SRAM or memory-centric physical implementation is preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementing and optimizing SRAM and associated memory structures and supporting signoff and verification activities.
- Contribute to physical design and implementation of high-speed SRAM and memory structures for advanced CPU products.
- Collaborate with architecture, RTL, circuit design, and physical design teams to meet PPA (power, performance, area) and schedule targets.
- Perform floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, timing closure, and design optimization.
- Analyze and resolve implementation, timing, power, reliability, and signoff challenges.
- Develop creative solutions to complex design and EDA tool problems.
- Contribute to methodology and flow improvements to increase design quality and efficiency.
- Create and present technical design reviews and documentation for engineering teams and management.
- Support physical verification, parasitic extraction, reliability analysis, and design signoff activities.
Requirements
Required technical skills and practical experience; preferred items listed separately.
Must-have:
- Experience with high-speed SRAM design or memory-centric physical implementation.
- Strong understanding of CPU, cache, or other performance-critical digital designs and related PPA tradeoffs.
- Knowledge of chip-level floorplanning, bus/pin planning, clock tree synthesis, placement, routing, and timing closure.
- Experience with parasitic extraction, static timing analysis, physical verification, and design signoff methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools for physical design and implementation.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with power integrity analysis (IR-drop, electromigration).
- Ability to read and modify complex Verilog RTL to meet timing, power, or implementation goals.
- Knowledge of digital circuits such as high-speed flops, synchronizers, level shifters, and SRAM circuit behavior.
- Experience with scripting or programming (Tcl, Perl, C, Python, or similar) to automate flows or analyses.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred.
