QualcommJob Title
Sr to Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Framework & Performance
Role Summary
Member of the ML Systems Team responsible for developing and evolving ML/AI compilers and performing workload analysis to inform Qualcomm hardware and software design. Focus areas include compiler algorithms, framework integration (e.g., PyTorch), performance analysis, and pre-silicon performance prediction.
Experience Level
Senior to Principal (senior-level). See Education Requirements for degree-linked years-of-experience guidance.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include compiler development, framework coupling, performance simulation, and translation of ML trends into HW/SW requirements.
- Develop and evolve production and exploratory ML/AI compilers for Qualcomm hardware.
- Define and implement algorithms that compile ML workloads for high performance and low power.
- Integrate PyTorch and other model formats into compiler flows for efficient execution.
- Analyze ML network design trends and translate findings into software and hardware feature requirements.
- Explore performance/area/power trade-offs for future HW and SW algorithms.
- Create performance-driven simulation components (C++, Python) for pre-silicon analysis and prediction.
- Run, debug, and analyze performance simulations; recommend hardware and software enhancements to address compute and memory bottlenecks.
- Work in cross-site, cross-functional teams to deliver system-level solutions.
Requirements
Core qualifications and desirable technical skills.
- Must-have: strong background in algorithm development and performance analysis; strong analytical and debugging skills; detail-oriented; strong written and verbal communication.
- Nice-to-have / assets: object-oriented design skills; strong C++ and Python; experience with compilers, CPU/DSP/GPU design; familiarity with PyTorch and ONNX; experience with revision control and CI/CD practices and tools (git, Jenkins, Docker, clang/MSVC).
- Additional assets: on-silicon debug skills for high-performance compute algorithms; solid knowledge of algorithms & data structures, computer architecture, digital circuits and event-driven transactional simulators.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 7+ years; OR PhD in those fields with 6+ years. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
