Sr. Test Engineer - Manufacturing
Role Summary
Member of External Manufacturing Operations responsible for engineering support and supplier management for test hardware across OSAT partners and H/W vendors. Role focuses on maintaining test equipment availability, diagnosing and repairing failing hardware, and driving process improvements to support production and engineering activities.
Works with global AMD teams to analyze equipment performance, compile manufacturing KPIs, and improve maintenance and hardware management processes.
Experience Level
Senior β requires more than 5 years of experience in test hardware troubleshooting and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Main duties include hands-on equipment management, vendor coordination, data-driven analysis, and process improvement.
- Manage consigned test equipment at OSATs to ensure sufficient capacity for production and engineering.
- Analyze and debug failing hardware; coordinate repairs with vendors.
- Perform equipment GR&R/MSA and resolve measurement system discrepancies.
- Analyze performance metrics (MTBF, utilization) to improve stability, availability, and maintenance efficiency.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair services per manufacturer instructions and procedures.
- Conduct audits to verify vendor and OSAT compliance with AMD requirements.
- Perform data analysis to identify cost savings in repair and maintenance.
- Compile manufacturing KPIs and prepare regular performance review reports.
- Drive continuous improvement in hardware management processes.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required for the role; listed separately from academic credentials below.
- >5 years experience in test hardware troubleshooting and maintenance (ATE/BI/SLT environments).
- Knowledge of high-performance computing ASIC test processes, especially active thermal control for ATE and system-level test.
- Hands-on experience with BI/ATE/SLT equipment β testers, handlers, test sockets.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, or R for equipment performance analysis.
- Strong written and spoken English; effective communication and organizational skills for global cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience performing equipment GR&R/MSA and conducting vendor/OSAT audits.
- Nice-to-have: experience with Python or SQL, structured problem solving methods, and prior remote cross-functional teamwork.
Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field β or equivalent practical experience.
