Sr. Technician - Failure Analysis (Microelectronics)

Role Summary

Join Fab 9's advanced analytical laboratory in Essex Junction to perform hands-on failure analysis supporting high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, yield learning, and root-cause investigations. Work closely with engineers and senior lab staff to execute SEM-based analyses and develop sample-preparation and characterization skills.

Prior SEM experience is preferred; training and development are provided for motivated candidates with related technical backgrounds.

Senior level β€” typically 2–4 years of relevant technical laboratory or manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

Perform and document physical failure analysis and support laboratory operations.

  • Perform SEM-based failure analysis for yield, reliability, and manufacturing investigations.
  • Prepare samples using mechanical cleaving, polishing, FIB milling, and wet/dry chemical etching.
  • Select and optimize SEM imaging conditions to capture high-quality data.
  • Analyze and document results with guidance from engineers and senior technicians.
  • Collaborate on investigation strategies and sample-preparation approaches.
  • Support tool maintenance and ensure safe operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in training to develop SEM operation, interpretation, and advanced techniques.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, safety, and quality practices in the lab.

Requirements

  • Must have: 2–4 years of relevant technical laboratory or manufacturing experience.
  • Must have: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have: Ability to learn new technical concepts and operate complex equipment.
  • Must have: Effective written and verbal communication; fluency in English.
  • Nice to have: Experience with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) or other microscopy techniques.
  • Nice to have: Experience in a semiconductor fab, cleanroom, or technical laboratory environment.
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with sample-preparation techniques and exposure to failure analysis or materials characterization.

Education Requirements

Required: Associate's degree (2-year technical degree) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Math, or a related discipline, or equivalent military technical training.
