Job Title

Sr Staff / Staff Power System Architect - Infrastructure & Datacenter

Role Summary

Lead definition and validation of complex power electronics system architectures (1–250 kW) for infrastructure and datacenter/server applications. Drive system-level trade-offs, select ICs, and deliver proof-of-concept hardware and reference designs.

Work on the Power System Marketing and Architecture team in Taipei with a hybrid office/home schedule; collaborate across product, design, sales, and external vendors to align solutions and roadmaps.

Experience Level

Senior level: requires extensive industry experience. The role expects 14+ years of relevant experience in power systems design and development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system architecture, modeling, prototyping and cross-functional leadership.

  • Define power electronics system architectures (1–250 kW) to meet electrical performance, reliability, and cost targets for infrastructure and datacenter applications.
  • Perform trade-off studies on system size, power density, cost and performance; produce clear rationale for architecture choices.
  • Develop detailed system specifications and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Select appropriate Renesas power products and components to meet system requirements and resolve technical issues with customers.
  • Partition large systems into modular, scalable sub-systems to meet efficiency and power-density goals.
  • Model and simulate systems using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink (preferred) and other circuit simulation tools.
  • Lead development of proof-of-concept boards from schematic to system-level validation and testing.
  • Manage project timelines, engineering resources and budgets for assigned initiatives.
  • Monitor market trends and contribute to solution and IC roadmap decisions for datacenter and infrastructure power supplies.
  • Collaborate with business development, sales, FAEs, power-IC design teams, hardware/software engineers and external vendors to support integration and promotion of solutions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and demonstrated experience; followed by desirable qualifications.

  • Extensive hands-on experience designing and developing power electronics systems in the 1–250 kW range and leading complex system projects.
  • Proven track record of developing physical prototypes and validating system-level performance.
  • Strong knowledge of power conversion topologies (AC-DC, inverter, isolated DC-DC, LDO, switching DC-DC), magnetics, control theory and discrete power devices (MOSFET, IGBT, GaN, SiC).
  • Proficiency with power-electronics simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, SIMetrix/Simplis, SPICE, or equivalent).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and feasibility-study skills, including BOM and cost comparisons.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working cross-functionally with global teams and customers.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with power supply architecture for communications infrastructure, datacenter and AI servers.
  • Nice-to-have: hands-on schematic design and PCB layout experience for high-power applications and EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
  • Nice-to-have: experience developing systems using wide-bandgap devices (GaN, SiC).

Education Requirements

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) required; PhD is a plus.
