Sr./Staff Manufacturing Engineer — Silicon Photonics Test

Role Summary

Primary technical lead for sustaining and ramping production test of Silicon Photonics products at Semtech's supplier in Taipei. Ensures stable throughput, yield, and customer test-data quality while converting manual processes into documented, automated, and scalable production flows.

Experience Level

Senior; requires 5+ years of test engineering experience with at least 2 years in Silicon Photonics, optoelectronic device, or laser diode test.

Responsibilities

Accountable for day-to-day production test operations, continuous improvement, automation, and customer test-data delivery.

• Sustain production test operations (LIV/LIP, Burn-In, ECL) at the supplier; act as primary technical interface and lead root-cause resolution (≈30%).
• Monitor and improve production metrics — yield, throughput, retest rate, cycle time; lead SPC and manage hold-lot disposition and RMA (≈20%).
• Drive automation and process standardization: convert manual processes to documented, automated procedures; maintain test-procedure documentation and release into AgilePLM (≈20%).
• Support customer test-data integrity and automated delivery; collaborate with IT and customer teams on API integration (≈15%).
• Support test capacity ramp planning and qualification of new test equipment; provide regular status updates to management and customers (≈15%).

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items noted.

• 5+ years test engineering experience; at least 2 years in Silicon Photonics, optoelectronic device, or laser diode testing.
• Hands-on experience with LIV/LIP tests, burn-in, and optical characterization equipment (Optical Spectrum Analyzer, photodetector, Source Measure Unit).
• Strong knowledge of semiconductor production test fundamentals: yield monitoring, SPC, root cause analysis, and hold-lot disposition.
• Strong English written and verbal communication for collaborating with HQ and global customers.
• Customer-facing professionalism, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and ability to work independently while mentoring others.
• Preferred: experience with OSATs/contract manufacturers in production-sustaining roles; familiarity with optical alignment, manual probing, and laser characterization; knowledge of optical transceiver components (TIA, CDR, GainChip, EML, DML, coherent modules).

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
