Senior Staff Engineer, SoC RTL Design

Role Summary

Define, implement, and optimize high-performance IP and SoC architectures for AI and compute workloads. Work at the intersection of microarchitecture, RTL implementation, and performance-aware design, collaborating with design, DV, physical, and firmware teams.

This is a hybrid role based primarily in Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, or Austin. Employment may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology and could require citizenship, permanent residency, or a government license.

Experience Level

Senior (staff-level). Candidates will be assessed during the interview process and assigned an appropriate level; no specific years of experience were stated.

Responsibilities

Deliver RTL and microarchitectural design work and support cross-team integration.

• Architect and implement custom IP blocks and SoC components in RTL.
• Make performance-aware design decisions for compute, interconnect, and memory-heavy blocks.
• Develop and maintain RTL (Verilog/VHDL) and work within full ASIC flows.
• Support synthesis, timing closure, and PPA trade-offs to assist backend teams.
• Contribute to validation through emulation, FPGA prototyping, or UVM flows as needed.
• Participate in specification definition, peer reviews, and cross-functional planning.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Deep understanding of computer architecture and IP microarchitecture.
• Proven RTL development skills (Verilog or VHDL) and familiarity with full ASIC flows.
• Strong synthesis and timing-closure knowledge; experience optimizing power, performance, and area.
• Collaborative communication skills for cross-functional design and reviews.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with on-chip fabric and interconnect designs.
• Experience with emulation, FPGA prototyping, or UVM verification flows.
• Background in processor or RISC-V design.
