Job Title

Sr Staff Analog Mixed-Signal Design Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for design, verification, and delivery of analog and mixed-signal IP for high-speed optical PHY transceivers. Work focuses on circuits such as PLLs, DLLs, ADCs/DACs, regulators, amplifiers, TX/RX, and CDRs to meet performance, power, and integration targets.

Join Marvell's Optical PHY team in San Diego, collaborating with layout, verification, and applications teams to move designs from concept to production. This role may require eligibility for access to export-controlled technologies and related approvals.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience guidelines in the posting: 5–10+ years with an MS in Electrical Engineering, or 3–5+ years with a PhD in Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architectural investigation, circuit implementation, simulation/verification, testing, and delivery of analog IP.

  • Architect and design mixed-signal/analog circuits: PLLs, DLLs, ADCs/DACs, TX/RX, CDRs, filters, regulators, bandgap/reference circuits, and amplifiers.
  • Perform circuit verification and simulations using SPICE/Spectre, MATLAB, HSPICE/Hsim and related tools.
  • Collaborate with layout, verification, and application teams to integrate IP and support tape-out and production handoff.
  • Develop test plans and perform lab characterization of prototypes to validate specifications.
  • Document and promote design best practices to improve quality and delivery.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience designing mixed-signal and analog circuits (ADCs, DACs, PLLs, RX/TX, filters, regulators).
  • Strong knowledge of deep sub-micron CMOS technologies and low-power / high-speed design techniques.
  • Proficiency with IC design and simulation tools: Spectre, SPICE, MATLAB, HSPICE/Hsim, Verilog.
  • Lab testing and characterization experience for prototype evaluation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to resolve complex circuit issues.

Nice-to-have: demonstrated leadership in developing best practices, specialized depth across multiple analog domains, and prior experience in optical transceiver or high-speed communications design.

Education Requirements

MS in Electrical Engineering with 5–10+ years of related experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 3–5+ years of related experience. The posting specifies electrical engineering as the field; equivalent practical experience is not stated.
